My Dream for Sumaoy

The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little. - Franklin D. Roosevelt

I have a dream; you have a dream; we all have dreams. Our dreams may not be as significant and noble as Martin Luther King's or Mother Teresa's or Ghandi's and they may not be as grand as Richard Branson's or Donald Trump's or Madonna's but they are ours and we are the only one who can make them come true. And that is what is important. We are following our own dreams and not somebody else's.

I have a dream; you have a dream; we all have dreams. The enormity or the tininess of our dream is only an outcome of our thoughts, our innermost feelings, our visions, our experiences, our willingness and awareness and our expectations. As they said thoughts become things and as we think so we become. Thereby the fulfilment of our dreams are by products of our willingness to go the extra mile to achieve them, willingness to get out of our comfort zone and be in an uncomfortable situation at the moment; awareness that it is a temporary situation and the expectations that a brighter and grander future awaits us.

My dream is to restore Sumaoy, my beloved birthplace into its almost paradise-like former beauty and glory. A place that even in the absence of technological advancement remains abundant. A place where natural resources are abound. A place where the serenades are the only songs in the nights. A place where there is peace and camaraderie amongst its citizens. A place where is no corruption, nor poverty or hunger. A place where there is compassion and there is no division. A place where the authorities are trustworthy and honest.

My dream is to see Sumaoy protects her children from ignorance. For Sumaoy to fight for the children’s rights for proper education. To see the children of Sumaoy learn not dynamite fishing but the art of reading, to reach not just the depth of the sea but the height of their dreams, to build not just castles in the sand but their castle of dreams like the Arcillas, the Cabidas, the Fajardos, the Samontes, the Sevillas and the Valleses.

My dream is to see the children of Sumaoy to remain innocent but not unwise, to explore freely but not to cause damage irrevocably, to develop positive skills and creativity and be open to possibilities. My dream is to see Sumaoy produce more Marilyn del Castillo who is now the Sales and Marketing Manager at Hyndai Quezon City, to bred more Luvimin Arcilla, the only dentist from Sumaoy, Gloria Quiros, the only woman engineer from Sumaoy, Corazon Samonte, the only Registered Nurse from Sumaoy.

I have a dream; you have a dream; we all have dreams. My dream is to go back to the place I used to call home. A place where the simplicity of life and the unhurried activities calms the inner spirit. A place to reconnect, a place to laugh, a place to remember the memories of who we are today. A place to go back to when one soul is in need of rest and peace.
